The Story Behind Balam Bikes
Balam Bikes was born from two worlds meeting on the trails of San Miguel. Nathan grew up in Belgium, where bikes weren’t just for sport, they were a way of life. For him, cycling meant freedom, exploration, and connection with the world around him. His wife Dey, a lifelong mountain biker and local of Santa Elena, has been part of the cycling community here for over a decade. Known affectionately as “la chica de la bici”, she’s inspired countless riders to explore the trails that surround the town. Together, they decided to turn their shared passion into something bigger, a way to help others discover the beauty of Petén on two wheels, with respect for nature and a spirit of adventure.
