Its intertwined roots and trunks create the appearance of an embrace, which inspired its nickname as the 'Tree of Love'; despite the fact that the original host tree was slowly overtaken and killed. Strangler figs grow from the top down, so many of the roots and stems visible today began high in the canopy before extending toward the ground.
