Tayasal Archeological Site
Explore ancient Maya history beneath the forest canopy at Tayasal Archaeological Site. Several kilometers of shaded jungle trails make it perfect for riding by bike, while elevated wooden boardwalks invite you to continue on foot through active excavation zones where you may see archaeologists at work. Climb to scenic viewpoints for sweeping views of Flores and Lake Petén Itzá, then visit the on-site museum displaying artifacts uncovered during the digs. Wildlife sightings, including monkeys and colorful birds, are common, and the tree cover keeps the ride cool even on hot days. Entry to both the site and museum is free, and nearby Chechenal Beach is an easy walk or bike ride away.
